About Gabrielle Ng

Just like everybody else, I can work like a machine. The only difference is that there's no "OFF" button in my brain, and I'm powered by the source called "LIFE".

Design is an interesting game to play, because of all the endless possibilities that you can get out of it. How each individual plays the game is different, of course. The following are the rules I keep in mind whenever I want to be successful in design:

Good Design Sense
As a University graduate with a BFA degree, I'm very sensitive to the visuals that I'm constantly looking at the good, the ugly, and anything in between. It is this habit that allows myself to have quick judgement throughout the design process.

Good Observation + Questioning
I don't like to watch the television, but to be intrigued by strangers in their stylish clothes, broken umbrellas in the back alley, or just pure contrast of light and dark on random objects. Then I will question myself why I look at them at the first place. There's always a reason behind any actions, and this includes your design decisions.

Being Different
I'm a fan of recycling paper and clothes, but not ideas. I'm afraid to try bungee jumping, but not being risky about trying an idea that might not work. I'm always yearning for attention but I'm too shy to verbally show that. Instead, I like to express myself through the visuals.

Having Emotions
Once my photoshop instructor told us that a successful design involves selling an emotion to your audiences. I didn't agree until I tried to remember some design that I like. Design is a communication, and you often want to make the conversation easy to understand and interesting. A design without emotion will most likely be forgotten.

Telling A Story
In design, You always need to have a message behind your work or else it will be meaningless. How the message is delivered affects the way the audiences interpret it. I like to communicate through the use of narratives, because I personally enjoy listening to stories than lectures or announcements. Design shouldn't simply be just a tool to communicate. Blending in your personal style is a good strategy to be unique

I never play the game safe, and sometimes I don't play it right. Moreover, I've chosen design because of challenges, excitement, and other good times that cannot be defined.
